The History of the Church
The Kaufman county record shows that Wilson Street Church of God in Christ was established in December 1934. The church board was made up of Brother Bud Nash, Brother David Hill, and Mother Linnie Bell Thomas. They later brought in Elder Jessie Williams as the Pastor in the 1930’s. The church was built in a cotton field and is still in the same location at 901 S. Wilson St. Pastor Jessie Williams was the overseer of Wilson Street C.O.G.I.C. until he brought in Elder Grady Hill, Sr. to be the Pastor in 1961. Pastor Grady Hill, Sr. was the pastor until his death in 1988. Elder Grady Hill, Jr, was brought in as the Pastor in 2006, and is still pastoring until now. Pastor Grady Hill, Jr. is just completing a legacy started by family that came before him and he is one of the third generation youth that grew up at Wilson St. along with Deacon Dan Lydia and Deacon Walter Rivers.
